Draft Grade — Bears
Overall B+
ValueC NeedB- TradesA+ FutureA+
The Bears won the weekend at the trade table. Grade: B+.

There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Bears started one anyway for Braelon Allen, 55 picks ahead of schedule. Call it a sensible B+, earned the boring way.

They banked enough surplus on Wilson to cover a lot of smaller sins. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. The Bears paired the rookies with proven help, Broderick Jones leading the way.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick4 Rnd1 Rome Odunze
In No. 4 they get a true top target. A real need, handled.
Pick20 Rnd1 Kamren Kinchens
In the Round 1 slot they get a two-high chess piece, even if it was a touch early. Need was not the driver here.
Pick27 Rnd1 Graham Barton
A straight-up fair deal on Graham Barton at the 27th pick, value and slot in agreement. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick34 Rnd2 Brian Thomas Jr.
A tidy little value on Brian Thomas Jr. in pick 34, a step better than break-even. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick35 Rnd2 Jackson Powers-Johnson
The board had cheaper options than Jackson Powers-Johnson at Round 2, Pick 3, and it noticed. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick39 Rnd2 Ja'Tavion Sanders
They paid up for Ja'Tavion Sanders at pick No. 39 when waiting would have done the job. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick40 Rnd2 Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at pick No. 40 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick52 Rnd2 Marist Liufau
A big swing on Marist Liufau at the Round 2 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick66 Rnd3 Kalen King
You do not let a cornerback like Kalen King reach slot 66 and blink. They did not. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick67 Rnd3 Zak Zinter
Zak Zinter in the 67th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick75 Rnd3 Blake Fisher
This one needs a full-page explanation: Blake Fisher in Round 3, Pick 11, miles early. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick100 Rnd3 Braelon Allen
They reached into another round for Braelon Allen, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick102 Rnd4 Keith Randolph Jr.
Value said wait; Keith Randolph Jr. in No. 102 says they were not listening. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick107 Rnd4 DeWayne Carter
Fair-plus on DeWayne Carter, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick110 Rnd4 Johnny Wilson
Johnny Wilson at No. 110 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick122 Rnd4 Khyree Jackson
Khyree Jackson slipping to the Round 4 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick139 Rnd5 Isaiah Adams
They read the board right and Isaiah Adams was the payoff at Round 5, Pick 3. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
