FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Bills, and a B- to prove it. Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Bills spent the 240th overall pick on Shaun Dolac, a name most had 101 spots down the list. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. Skattebo falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Nick Emmanwori
In the 30th overall pick they get an enforcer at safety, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick56
Rnd2
Alfred Collins
Alfred Collins at the 56th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick62
Rnd2
Maxwell Hairston
A conviction pick on Maxwell Hairston at Round 2, Pick 30 that the board grades a round light. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick109
Rnd4
Jared Wilson
Jared Wilson at slot 109 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick132
Rnd4
Cam Skattebo
They robbed the room for Cam Skattebo here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick169
Rnd5
Jack Nelson
Jack Nelson at pick 169 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick170
Rnd5
Jack Kiser
They jumped the gun on Jack Kiser, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick173
Rnd5
CJ West
They liked CJ West enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 5, Pick 35. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick177
Rnd6
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
They paid sticker price for Dont'e Thornton Jr. in the 177th overall pick, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick233
Rnd7
Bilhal Kone
Bilhal Kone in No. 233 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick240
Rnd7
Shaun Dolac
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Shaun Dolac well ahead of where he belonged. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
