A solid, sensible weekend for the Cardinals: B+. It is a puzzling start. The Cardinals had quarterback, running back and other spots to solve and reached instead for Kris Abrams-Draine, a cornerback, at pick No. 106. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B+.
The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. However the rest shakes out, Wilson at that price is a win they earned. Every board in the league had Abrams-Draine lower, and that gap is the story.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick13
Rnd1
Dallas Turner
In Round 1, Pick 13 they get juice off the edge at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick27
Rnd1
Quinyon Mitchell
In the 27th overall pick they get a ballhawk on the outside. Need was not the driver here.
Pick35
Rnd2
Xavier Legette
By-the-book stuff, Xavier Legette at pick No. 35 squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick44
Rnd2
Kris Jenkins
No drama and no debate, Kris Jenkins went about where he belonged in the Round 2 slot. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick69
Rnd3
Johnny Wilson
They took Johnny Wilson at par in the 69th pick, which is nothing to complain about. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick71
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
Cooper Beebe at Round 3, Pick 7 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick90
Rnd3
Roman Wilson
A slide stopped in pick 90, with Roman Wilson worth more than the price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick105
Rnd4
Zak Zinter
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Zak Zinter at slot 105 is the proof. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick106
Rnd4
Kris Abrams-Draine
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending No. 106 on Kris Abrams-Draine with quarterback, running back and other spots unsolved.
