mudwhistle DRAFTING FOR THEChargers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall
B-
ValueB
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Chargers won the night they stopped Taylor from sliding. Grade: B-. Call it larceny. Mason Taylor sat on the board until the 179th pick, and the Chargers did not need to be asked twice.
The cost of the Fleming reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
Interior defensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick22
Rnd1
Kenneth Grant
In slot 22 they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick55
Rnd2
Colston Loveland
Colston Loveland in No. 55 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The roster fit checks out.
Pick86
Rnd3
Cam Skattebo
Cam Skattebo in pick 86 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick123
Rnd4
Jake Majors
Taking Jake Majors in pick No. 123 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. It fills a real need, too.
Pick157
Rnd5
Danny Stutsman
The board fumbled Danny Stutsman all the way to the 157th overall pick, and they scooped it up. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick179
Rnd6
Mason Taylor
Mason Taylor at Round 6, Pick 4 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick197
Rnd6
DJ Campbell
They went early on DJ Campbell in the Round 6 slot, and the value did not follow. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick208
Rnd6
Bhayshul Tuten
They barely believed it either: Bhayshul Tuten still on the board at the 208th pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick213
Rnd6
Julian Fleming
A real head-scratcher, Julian Fleming in slot 213 is miles ahead of his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick218
Rnd7
Jonah Monheim
Fair-plus on Jonah Monheim, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick253
Rnd7
Brant Kuithe
Brant Kuithe in Round 7, Pick 37 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
