Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B+
ValueC+ NeedB+ TradesA+ FutureB-
A masterclass at the trade table lands the 49ers a B+.

The 49ers clearly saw something nobody else did in LaJohntay Wester, taking him 121 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced.

That is a running back worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. With quarterback, tight end and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on safety is the choice that costs them.

They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 Will Campbell
In the 12th overall pick they get a cornerstone up front. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick43 Rnd2 Malaki Starks
Malaki Starks slipping to the Round 2 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick75 Rnd3 Dylan Sampson
A quiet steal in slot 75: Dylan Sampson for less than the market said. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick76 Rnd3 Malachi Moore
A want over a need in pick No. 76: Malachi Moore adds a safety while quarterback, tight end and other spots keeps waiting.
Pick100 Rnd3 Isaiah Bond
They will replay Isaiah Bond at Round 3, Pick 36 for years; that is how good the value is. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick113 Rnd4 LaJohntay Wester
This one needs a full-page explanation: LaJohntay Wester in No. 113, miles early. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick138 Rnd4 Jacob Parrish
The board had Jacob Parrish higher than pick 138, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick147 Rnd5 Que Robinson
Que Robinson at the 147th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick160 Rnd5 Nazir Stackhouse
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Nazir Stackhouse. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick227 Rnd7 Donovan Edwards
Donovan Edwards in the Round 7 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick249 Rnd7 Hayden Conner
They barely believed it either: Hayden Conner still on the board at slot 249. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick252 Rnd7 Bryson Eason
Bryson Eason at pick No. 252 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
