4D9RZ DRAFTING FOR THE49ers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the 49ers: B-. You can usually follow a front office's logic. This one is harder. The 49ers spent slot 131 on Jarrian Jones while wide receiver, running back and other spots sat unaddressed. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
The wide receiver hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The cost of the Ulofoshio reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Amarius Mims
In the 31st pick they get an anchor for the offensive line. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick63
Rnd2
Braden Fiske
The board had Braden Fiske higher than No. 63, and the interior defensive lineman fell to them anyway. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick94
Rnd3
Khyree Jackson
They let Khyree Jackson come to them and pounced at the 94th overall pick. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick124
Rnd4
Cedric Gray
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Cedric Gray at slot 124 is the proof. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick131
Rnd4
Jarrian Jones
A want over a need in pick No. 131: Jarrian Jones adds a cornerback while wide receiver, running back and other spots keeps waiting.
Pick133
Rnd4
Kalen King
Of all the spots to shop, they chose cornerback. Kalen King in the Round 4 slot leaves wide receiver, running back and other spots for later.
Pick176
Rnd6
Tanor Bortolini
They paid a round early for Tanor Bortolini in Round 6, Pick 1, more than the board wanted. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick211
Rnd6
Tatum Bethune
A wild overpay on Tatum Bethune in the 211th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick215
Rnd6
Edefuan Ulofoshio
Edefuan Ulofoshio at pick 215 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick232
Rnd7
Marcellas Dial
They went early on Marcellas Dial in pick 232, and the value did not follow. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick251
Rnd7
Kalen DeLoach
A clean, defensible pick in Round 7, Pick 31 with a little surplus value in Kalen DeLoach. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
