Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B-

Grand theft in slot 178: the Steelers steal Smith and grade out a B-.

The curious call sets the tone. With quarterback, edge rusher and other spots still glaring, the Steelers used pick No. 62 on Zach Frazier, an offensive lineman they were not exactly short of. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.

They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. Smith at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The Phillips reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.

Interior defensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Amarius Mims
In No. 30 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value.
Pick51 Rnd2 Ricky Pearsall
They liked Ricky Pearsall enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 51. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick62 Rnd2 Zach Frazier
A surprising call. With quarterback, edge rusher and other spots still to address, they spent slot 62 on Zach Frazier, an offensive lineman they were not short of.
Pick84 Rnd3 Andru Phillips
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Andru Phillips well ahead of where he belonged. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick98 Rnd3 Maason Smith
Maason Smith at Round 3, Pick 35 is a conviction pick that outran the value. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick119 Rnd4 Johnny Wilson
Johnny Wilson in the Round 4 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The roster fit checks out.
Pick178 Rnd6 Tykee Smith
The board fumbled Tykee Smith all the way to pick No. 178, and they scooped it up. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick195 Rnd6 Logan Lee
Logan Lee at the 195th pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
