Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B
ValueA- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
Grand theft in the 230th overall pick: the 49ers steal Simon and grade out a B.

This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Cody Simon, the No. 122 name on the board, stolen at slot 230. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.

The Mukuba pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with wide receiver, quarterback and other spots still on the board. The wide receiver hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 Mason Graham
In the 11th overall pick they get a wrecking ball inside. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick43 Rnd2 Tyler Booker
Tyler Booker in slot 43 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick75 Rnd3 Jihaad Campbell
Jihaad Campbell in pick No. 75 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick99 Rnd3 Malachi Moore
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Malachi Moore in the Round 3 slot, plain and simple. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick111 Rnd4 Andrew Mukuba
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Andrew Mukuba adds a safety and leaves wide receiver, quarterback and other spots untouched.
Pick137 Rnd4 Gunnar Helm
Gunnar Helm at the 137th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The roster fit checks out.
Pick185 Rnd6 Dominic Zvada
They will replay Dominic Zvada at No. 185 for years; that is how good the value is. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick226 Rnd7 DJ Campbell
DJ Campbell in pick 226 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick230 Rnd7 Cody Simon
They barely believed it either: Cody Simon still on the board at the 230th overall pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick249 Rnd7 Jaylen Reed
Jaylen Reed in pick No. 249 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick255 Rnd7 Donovan Edwards
You do not let a running back like Donovan Edwards reach pick 255 and blink. They did not. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
