The Chargers answered their biggest question with McCarthy. Grade: D-.

There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Chargers started one anyway for Frank Gore Jr., 43 picks ahead of schedule. Too much went sideways, and the D- is the honest tally.

The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. They have staked the next five years on J.J. McCarthy, which is the only story that really matters here.

That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Carson.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, interior defensive lineman very much included.
