Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall B+
ValueC+ NeedB+ TradesA FutureA
More right than wrong for the Chargers, and a B+ to prove it.

The tape said wait; the Chargers did not. Jack Westover went at Round 7, Pick 36, a good 65 picks before the board was ready. Call it a sensible B+, earned the boring way.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. Landing McCaffrey that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. The Larry Ogunjobi deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Quinyon Mitchell
Quinyon Mitchell in the Round 1 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick37 Rnd2 Kris Jenkins
A premium they did not need to pay, Kris Jenkins a notch or two before his time. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick51 Rnd2 Zach Frazier
A reach for Zach Frazier in Round 2, Pick 19; a little patience would have been rewarded. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick69 Rnd3 Calen Bullock
They took Calen Bullock at par in pick 69, which is nothing to complain about. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick84 Rnd3 Leonard Taylor III
They paid a round early for Leonard Taylor III in the 84th overall pick, more than the board wanted. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick106 Rnd4 Braelon Allen
Braelon Allen in pick No. 106 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick139 Rnd5 Mason McCormick
This one needs a full-page explanation: Mason McCormick in No. 139, miles early. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick183 Rnd6 Luke McCaffrey
Luke McCaffrey in pick 183 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick223 Rnd7 Jalen Coker
Jalen Coker in slot 223 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick256 Rnd7 Jack Westover
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jack Westover. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
