Lance DRAFTING FOR THEChargers

Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall
B

TradesB-
FutureB-
Washington II should have been long gone. The Chargers pounced, and earned a B. You could see the war room lean forward. Elliot Washington II at Round 7, Pick 40 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. The bottom line is a respectable B.
The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The cost of the Barton reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick Analysis
Pick21
Rnd1
Matayo Uiagalelei
Matayo Uiagalelei at pick No. 21 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick53
Rnd2
Connor Lew
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Connor Lew in pick 53, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick85
Rnd3
Parker Brailsford
Nothing to complain about; Parker Brailsford went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick121
Rnd4
Domani Jackson
Domani Jackson in the Round 4 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick160
Rnd5
Lander Barton
Lander Barton at the 160th overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick199
Rnd6
Barion Brown
A conviction pick on Barion Brown at slot 199 that the board grades a round light. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick234
Rnd7
Riley Mahlman
Riley Mahlman in the 234th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The roster fit checks out.
Pick256
Rnd7
Elliot Washington II
They barely believed it either: Elliot Washington II still on the board at Round 7, Pick 40. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
