Draft Grade — Cowboys

The Cowboys bled value on every deal, hence the D-. The Deven Eastern selection is the head-turner. The Cowboys reached 50 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. The math is unkind, and the D- follows.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. With tight end unsolved, spending premium capital on safety is the choice that costs them. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Sonny Styles
A conviction pick on Sonny Styles at Round 1, Pick 12 that the board grades a round light. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick31
Rnd1
Anthony Hill Jr.
In No. 31 they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick46
Rnd2
Caleb Banks
They took Caleb Banks at par in the 46th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick75
Rnd3
Jaeden Roberts
Jaeden Roberts in slot 75 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick87
Rnd3
Genesis Smith
Genesis Smith in pick No. 87 is fair value, right on his grade. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick95
Rnd3
Nicholas Singleton
No edge and no loss on Nicholas Singleton in the 95th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick112
Rnd4
Caden Curry
Caden Curry at the 112th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick116
Rnd4
Bishop Fitzgerald
A curious use of pick 116. Tight end needed the pick; a safety in Bishop Fitzgerald did not.
Pick150
Rnd5
Lander Barton
Lander Barton at the 150th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick153
Rnd5
Chase Roberts
No drama and no debate, Chase Roberts went about where he belonged in slot 153. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick177
Rnd5
Taylen Green
A reach on Taylen Green in pick No. 177; the board had better options right there. The roster fit checks out.
Pick215
Rnd6
Thaddeus Dixon
Thaddeus Dixon at the Round 6 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick221
Rnd7
Andre Fuller
Andre Fuller at Round 7, Pick 5 is a conviction pick that outran the value. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick225
Rnd7
Deven Eastern
They talked themselves into Deven Eastern at No. 225, and the board did not agree. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
