Draft Grade — Cowboys

FutureB-
The Cowboys got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D-. The tape said wait; the Cowboys did not. Joey Aguilar went at the 225th pick, a good 60 picks before the board was ready. The process wobbled, and the D- is where it lands.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. The Wheatley pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with tight end still on the board.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up.
It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Sonny Styles
In No. 12 they get the heartbeat of the defense, reach and all. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick20
Rnd1
Anthony Hill Jr.
In pick No. 20 they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker, even if it was a touch early. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick60
Rnd2
A.J. Haulcy
A clean, defensible pick in slot 60 with a little surplus value in A.J. Haulcy. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick70
Rnd3
Jaeden Roberts
A big swing on Jaeden Roberts at the Round 3 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick90
Rnd3
Zakee Wheatley
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Zakee Wheatley at safety with tight end open.
Pick107
Rnd4
Caden Curry
No edge and no loss on Caden Curry in Round 4, Pick 7; it is a wash and a sensible one. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick112
Rnd4
Jaishawn Barham
They paid sticker price for Jaishawn Barham in pick No. 112, and that is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick150
Rnd5
Chase Roberts
Chase Roberts at slot 150 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick177
Rnd5
Ephesians Prysock
A straight-up fair deal on Ephesians Prysock at the 177th pick, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick215
Rnd6
Zxavian Harris
Zxavian Harris in pick 215 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick221
Rnd7
Robert Henry Jr.
They jumped the gun on Robert Henry Jr., taking him earlier than his grade liked. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick225
Rnd7
Joey Aguilar
A real head-scratcher, Joey Aguilar in Round 7, Pick 9 is miles ahead of his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
