Franklin should have been long gone. The Steelers pounced, and earned a B.

The board owed the Steelers one, and it paid up: Zakhari Franklin, the No. 229 name on the board, sitting there at pick No. 249 like a gift left on the doorstep. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. They are betting Van Pran proves the room right and everyone else wrong. Spending an early pick on offensive lineman with quarterback, running back and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
