The Steelers cashed the board's mistake on Harden: B-. The board owed the Steelers one, and it paid up: Myles Harden, the No. 209 name on the board, sitting there at the 254th pick like a gift left on the doorstep. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Frazier pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at quarterback, edge rusher and other spots. The cost of the Hall reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
Interior defensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
JC Latham
In slot 20 they get a building block for the line. More want than need.
Pick51
Rnd2
Zach Frazier
A want over a need in No. 51: Zach Frazier adds an offensive lineman while quarterback, edge rusher and other spots keeps waiting.
Pick84
Rnd3
Ruke Orhorhoro
Ruke Orhorhoro is a better player than the Round 3 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick123
Rnd4
Cedric Gray
Cedric Gray in pick No. 123 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick127
Rnd4
Johnny Wilson
They took Johnny Wilson at par in Round 4, Pick 27, which is nothing to complain about. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick161
Rnd5
Kitan Oladapo
Kitan Oladapo at pick 161 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick178
Rnd6
Kamal Hadden
A tidy bit of business in the 178th pick, where Kamal Hadden graded well above the range. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick196
Rnd6
Cornelius Johnson
They let Cornelius Johnson come to them and pounced at the 196th overall pick. The roster fit checks out.
Pick209
Rnd6
Gabe Hall
They liked Gabe Hall enough to skip the value, taking him in the 209th pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick254
Rnd7
Myles Harden
Somehow Myles Harden was still sitting there in pick No. 254, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
