Melton should have been long gone. The Steelers pounced, and earned a A-. This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Max Melton, the No. 111 name on the board, stolen at pick No. 155. Very little went wrong, and the A- is earned.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. The Van Pran pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with interior defensive lineman, edge rusher and other spots still on the board. If Van Pran pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.
In the end it comes back to Quinyon Mitchell, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
