Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B
ValueA- NeedB- TradesC FutureB+
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Steelers: B.

Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Maurice Smith at the 244th overall pick is 60 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline.

The McMillan pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.

They gave back a little on the phones for the right to move. The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 JC Latham
In the Round 1 slot they get a plug-and-play piece up front at a price that makes it sweeter. Need was not the driver here.
Pick55 Rnd2 Terrion Arnold
Circle this one: Terrion Arnold at the 55th pick is a fall that decides a draft. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick87 Rnd3 Tommy Eichenberg
Tommy Eichenberg at Round 3, Pick 24 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick135 Rnd4 James Williams
A clean, defensible pick in slot 135 with a little surplus value in James Williams. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick171 Rnd5 Jalen McMillan
Steal is underselling it; Jalen McMillan at pick No. 171 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick175 Rnd5 Khyree Jackson
You do not let a cornerback like Khyree Jackson reach pick 175 and blink. They did not. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick187 Rnd6 Sataoa Laumea
They barely believed it either: Sataoa Laumea still on the board at the 187th pick. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick201 Rnd6 Jonah Monheim
Jonah Monheim at slot 201 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick244 Rnd7 Maurice Smith
Maurice Smith at pick 244 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
