Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall A-
ValueB NeedB TradesA+ FutureA
Wiley should have been long gone. The Steelers pounced, and earned a A-.

The Steelers did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Michael Wiley fell into slot 228. They executed a plan and it shows in the A-.

The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. The Steelers indulged a want in Nugent while a need in quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots stayed open.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. Nugent has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.

In the end it comes back to Quinyon Mitchell, and a haul good enough to build on right away.

Pick Analysis
Pick32 Rnd1 Quinyon Mitchell
In slot 32 they get an island corner at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick56 Rnd2 Patrick Paul
Patrick Paul in pick No. 56 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick106 Rnd4 Darius Robinson
The board had cheaper options than Darius Robinson at the 106th overall pick, and it noticed. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick119 Rnd4 Jacob Cowing
Jacob Cowing in pick 119 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The roster fit checks out.
Pick120 Rnd4 Kris Abrams-Draine
No edge and no loss on Kris Abrams-Draine in the 120th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick132 Rnd4 Drake Nugent
A curious use of Round 4, Pick 32. Quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots needed the pick; an offensive lineman in Drake Nugent did not.
Pick198 Rnd6 Michael Barrett
They read the board right and Michael Barrett was the payoff at No. 198. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick222 Rnd7 Josh Proctor
Circle this one: Josh Proctor at the Round 7 slot is a fall that decides a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick228 Rnd7 Michael Wiley
Michael Wiley in pick No. 228 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
