Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall
A-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesA+
FutureA+
The Steelers worked the phones like thieves and earned a A-. Give the war room a raise for the dealing alone. The Steelers came out ahead on every exchange that mattered, and it was not close. The sum of the weekend is a deserved A-.
They will answer for taking offensive lineman early while quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots went begging. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.
On value alone, Smith makes the weekend a net positive.
Add it up and this is about as clean as a draft weekend gets.
Pick Analysis
Pick52
Rnd2
Kiran Amegadjie
Kiran Amegadjie in pick 52 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick86
Rnd3
Mike Sainristil
Good price on Mike Sainristil in slot 86, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick95
Rnd3
Marist Liufau
Marist Liufau is a better player than the 95th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick96
Rnd3
Khyree Jackson
Khyree Jackson in pick No. 96 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick107
Rnd4
Darius Robinson
Darius Robinson at the Round 4 slot is a conviction pick that outran the value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick110
Rnd4
Tykee Smith
Nice patience on Tykee Smith, who had no business lasting to the 110th overall pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick119
Rnd4
Tommy Eichenberg
No edge and no loss on Tommy Eichenberg in No. 119; it is a wash and a sensible one. It fills a real need, too.
Pick120
Rnd4
Javon Foster
They bypassed pressing needs at quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots to take Javon Foster, an offensive lineman that was not the priority.
