FutureA-
Best value of the weekend goes to the Steelers for Castro: A-. The Steelers did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Sebastian Castro fell into Round 4, Pick 29. The sum of the weekend is a deserved A-.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. The Caldwell reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.
Bottom line, they left the weekend a clearly better team, and they earned every bit of it.
Pick Analysis
Pick49
Rnd2
Landon Jackson
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Landon Jackson in pick 49. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick73
Rnd3
Carson Beck
Carson Beck in No. 73 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick92
Rnd3
Barrett Carter
They robbed the room for Barrett Carter here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick101
Rnd3
Maxwell Hairston
Maxwell Hairston at Round 3, Pick 37 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. The roster fit checks out.
Pick116
Rnd4
Ozzy Trapilo
Nice patience on Ozzy Trapilo, who had no business lasting to the 116th overall pick. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick128
Rnd4
Jayden Higgins
Good price on Jayden Higgins in slot 128, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It fills a real need, too.
Pick130
Rnd4
Sebastian Castro
Sebastian Castro at the 130th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick150
Rnd5
Benjamin Morrison
Value with a capital V on Benjamin Morrison in pick No. 150, a genuine coup. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick162
Rnd5
Jaxson Dart
They will replay Jaxson Dart at slot 162 for years; that is how good the value is. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick212
Rnd6
Kyren Lacy
Kyren Lacy at pick 212 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick223
Rnd7
Julian Fleming
Julian Fleming is a better player than Round 7, Pick 9 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick235
Rnd7
Jamaree Caldwell
They jumped the gun on Jamaree Caldwell, taking him earlier than his grade liked. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick245
Rnd7
Damien Martinez
Damien Martinez in the Round 7 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
