Draft Grade — Bears
Overall A-
ValueB NeedB TradesA+ FutureA+
The Bears bet the future on Nix. The board says A-.

The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Bears spent their marquee pick on Bo Nix, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. Just about everything broke right, and the A- follows.

The Nugent pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. They banked enough surplus on Cooper to cover a lot of smaller sins.

That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

Bottom line, with Bo Nix leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Jared Verse
In pick 21 they get a premier pass rusher, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick27 Rnd1 Bo Nix
In slot 27 they get a long-term answer under center. A real need, handled.
Pick36 Rnd2 Brian Thomas Jr.
Brian Thomas Jr. slipping to the Round 2 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick47 Rnd2 Kingsley Suamataia
They liked Kingsley Suamataia enough to skip the value, taking him in the 47th overall pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick70 Rnd3 Patrick Paul
By-the-book stuff, Patrick Paul at pick No. 70 squarely in line with his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick75 Rnd3 Edgerrin Cooper
Edgerrin Cooper at Round 3, Pick 11 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The roster fit checks out.
Pick122 Rnd4 Johnny Wilson
They took Johnny Wilson at par in the 122nd pick, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick138 Rnd5 Luke McCaffrey
A reach for Luke McCaffrey in No. 138; a little patience would have been rewarded. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick152 Rnd5 Mason McCormick
A reasonable price with a little left over, Mason McCormick in pick No. 152. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick162 Rnd5 Drake Nugent
This one needs a full-page explanation: Drake Nugent in Round 5, Pick 26, miles early. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick192 Rnd6 Myles Cole
They paid sticker price for Myles Cole in the Round 6 slot, and that is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
