Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall

FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Steelers. Of all the ways to open, the Steelers chose the head-scratcher, spending slot 60 on Kingsley Suamataia with quarterback, edge rusher and other spots still wide open. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
Reaching for Hopper left real value on the table behind him. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
However the rest shakes out, Robinson at that price is a win they earned.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Brian Thomas Jr.
They took Brian Thomas Jr. at par in pick No. 28, which is nothing to complain about. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick51
Rnd2
Zach Frazier
They liked Zach Frazier enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 51. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick60
Rnd2
Kingsley Suamataia
A surprising call. With quarterback, edge rusher and other spots still to address, they spent Round 2, Pick 28 on Kingsley Suamataia, an offensive lineman they were not short of.
Pick84
Rnd3
Max Melton
Fair-plus on Max Melton, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick98
Rnd3
Khyree Jackson
Khyree Jackson in slot 98 is fair value, right on his grade. The roster fit checks out.
Pick119
Rnd4
Tyler Davis
Tyler Davis at the 119th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick160
Rnd5
Tykee Smith
A straight-up fair deal on Tykee Smith at No. 160, value and slot in agreement. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick163
Rnd5
Ty'Ron Hopper
A real head-scratcher, Ty'Ron Hopper in pick 163 is miles ahead of his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick178
Rnd6
Fabien Lovett
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Fabien Lovett. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick195
Rnd6
Curtis Jacobs
Curtis Jacobs in Round 6, Pick 20 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick248
Rnd7
Tayvion Robinson
A slide stopped in slot 248, with Tayvion Robinson worth more than the price. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
