FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Steelers a B-. Boards are made to be trusted, and the Steelers shredded theirs for Hunter Nourzad. He came off 27 spots early, and the room will hear about it. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
The Steelers indulged a want in Nourzad while a need in interior defensive lineman, running back and other spots stayed open. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. Getting Still where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
Quinyon Mitchell
In pick 20 they get a potential shutdown corner. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick51
Rnd2
Xavier Worthy
Xavier Worthy at the Round 2 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick95
Rnd3
Khyree Jackson
No edge and no loss on Khyree Jackson in No. 95; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick98
Rnd3
Brenden Rice
A straight-up fair deal on Brenden Rice at slot 98, value and slot in agreement. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick127
Rnd4
Roger Rosengarten
Roger Rosengarten in the 127th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick132
Rnd4
Hunter Nourzad
They bypassed pressing needs at interior defensive lineman, running back and other spots to take Hunter Nourzad, an offensive lineman that was not the priority.
Pick159
Rnd5
Khristian Boyd
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Khristian Boyd well ahead of where he belonged. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick178
Rnd6
Tanor Bortolini
They went early on Tanor Bortolini in Round 6, Pick 3, and the value did not follow. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick188
Rnd6
Curtis Jacobs
They paid up for Curtis Jacobs at pick 188 when waiting would have done the job. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick195
Rnd6
Joe Milton III
They paid sticker price for Joe Milton III in the 195th overall pick, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick247
Rnd7
Josh Proctor
A tidy little value on Josh Proctor in the Round 7 slot, a step better than break-even. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick252
Rnd7
Tarheeb Still
A slide stopped in slot 252, with Tarheeb Still worth more than the price. The roster fit checks out.
