Bmjr9693 DRAFTING FOR THESteelers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall
B-
ValueB
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Steelers a B-. The Steelers spent real capital to be 27 picks early on Drake Nugent, and the board is going to hold them to it. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
It is not that Nugent is a bad player; it is that the Steelers had louder needs to answer first. They went 4 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
Cooper DeJean
Good price on Cooper DeJean in the Round 1 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick52
Rnd2
Tyler Guyton
Tyler Guyton is a better player than slot 52 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick84
Rnd3
Marist Liufau
Marist Liufau in pick 84 is fair value, right on his grade. The roster fit checks out.
Pick120
Rnd4
Cole Bishop
Cole Bishop at No. 120 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick121
Rnd4
Drake Nugent
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went offensive lineman with Drake Nugent while clear needs at quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots sat open.
Pick198
Rnd6
De'Corian Clark
No edge and no loss on De'Corian Clark in the 198th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick238
Rnd7
Sheridan Jones
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Sheridan Jones in No. 238. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
