The phones sank the Jaguars this weekend: B-. Nobody had Jermari Harris this high, and it is not close. The Jaguars reached 49 spots to get him at the 182nd overall pick. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
Thornton Jr. at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. The offensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but offensive lineman.
Pick Analysis
Pick33
Rnd2
Kenneth Grant
Value with a capital V on Kenneth Grant in the Round 2 slot, a genuine coup. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick36
Rnd2
Emeka Egbuka
A tidy little value on Emeka Egbuka in Round 2, Pick 4, a step better than break-even. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick67
Rnd3
Trey Amos
The board had Trey Amos higher than slot 67, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick70
Rnd3
Jaylin Noel
Jaylin Noel in the 70th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick88
Rnd3
Mason Taylor
A tidy bit of business in pick 88, where Mason Taylor graded well above the range. The roster fit checks out.
Pick107
Rnd4
Will Howard
Will Howard at No. 107 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the quarterback. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick142
Rnd5
O'Donnell Fortune
O'Donnell Fortune at Round 5, Pick 4 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick182
Rnd6
Jermari Harris
They talked themselves into Jermari Harris at the Round 6 slot, and the board did not agree. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick194
Rnd6
R.J. Mickens
R.J. Mickens in the 194th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick221
Rnd7
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. at pick No. 221 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick236
Rnd7
Theo Wease Jr.
Theo Wease Jr. at the 236th pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
