Draft Grade — Saints
Overall B-
ValueC NeedA- TradesB- FutureB-
The Saints did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B-.

The Saints spent real capital to be 43 picks early on Tyler Baron, and the board is going to hold them to it.

That Ayomanor pick is the receipt they will wave around later. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.

Pick Analysis
Pick9 Rnd1 Jack Sawyer
In pick No. 9 they get a problem off the edge, a steep price for the projection. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick40 Rnd2 Josh Conerly Jr.
Nothing to complain about; Josh Conerly Jr. went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick71 Rnd3 Darien Porter
They took Darien Porter at par in slot 71, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick93 Rnd3 Elic Ayomanor
A wide receiver of that caliber at pick 93 is the definition of value, full stop. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick112 Rnd4 Tyler Baron
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Tyler Baron well ahead of where he belonged. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick131 Rnd4 Joshua Farmer
Taking Joshua Farmer in No. 131 is close to grand larceny; an interior defensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick184 Rnd6 Jaydon Blue
They read the board right and Jaydon Blue was the payoff at the 184th overall pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick248 Rnd7 Dante Trader Jr.
They will replay Dante Trader Jr. at pick No. 248 for years; that is how good the value is. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick254 Rnd7 Jahvaree Ritzie
Jahvaree Ritzie at pick 254 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
