Draft Grade — Buccaneers
Overall D+
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureC
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Buccaneers to a D+.

There is reaching, and then there is James Williams at Round 3, Pick 17. The Buccaneers jumped the board by 37 and dared it to prove them wrong. A D+ that will need time and luck to look better.

The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. The Stover pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with interior defensive lineman, tight end and other spots still on the board.

That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They banked enough surplus on DeJean to cover a lot of smaller sins.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and interior defensive lineman is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick17 Rnd1 Xavier Legette
In the 17th pick they get a difference-maker at receiver. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick24 Rnd1 Jared Verse
In Round 1, Pick 24 they get a disruptor off the edge at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick42 Rnd2 Trey Benson
Trey Benson in the 42nd overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick74 Rnd3 Cooper DeJean
Cooper DeJean in pick No. 74 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The roster fit checks out.
Pick80 Rnd3 Amarius Mims
No edge and no loss on Amarius Mims in slot 80; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick81 Rnd3 James Williams
James Williams at pick 81 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick110 Rnd4 Zach Frazier
They left a pile of value on the table to take Zach Frazier this early at the 110th pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick117 Rnd4 Cade Stover
A surprising call. With interior defensive lineman, tight end and other spots still to address, they spent Round 4, Pick 17 on Cade Stover, a TE-EDGE they were not short of.
Pick188 Rnd6 Steve Linton
Nice patience on Steve Linton, who had no business lasting to pick 188. It fills a real need, too.
Pick220 Rnd6 Carson Steele
They took Carson Steele at par in slot 220, which is nothing to complain about. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
