Fat Pat DRAFTING FOR THEPanthers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Panthers
Overall
B
ValueB
NeedA-
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Panthers cashed the board's mistake on Wiggins: B. There is a lot to like until you notice linebacker is still a hole. The Panthers never got to the one that mattered most. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
Wiggins falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. The Edwards pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick33
Rnd2
Troy Franklin
No edge and no loss on Troy Franklin in Round 2, Pick 1; it is a wash and a sensible one. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick39
Rnd2
Nate Wiggins
Steal is underselling it; Nate Wiggins at the Round 2 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick65
Rnd3
Xavier Worthy
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Xavier Worthy. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick101
Rnd4
Christian Mahogany
Christian Mahogany at No. 101 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick142
Rnd5
Jarrian Jones
Jarrian Jones at pick 142 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick166
Rnd5
Tykee Smith
Tykee Smith in slot 166 lands just on the right side of the ledger. The roster fit checks out.
Pick178
Rnd6
Daijun Edwards
They liked Daijun Edwards enough to skip the value, taking him in the 178th pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
