Draft Grade — Bears
Overall C
ValueC NeedB TradesD FutureB-
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Bears to a C.

Nobody had Jonah Monheim this high, and it is not close. The Bears reached 68 spots to get him at No. 78. A weekend of give and take that grades a C.

The Smith pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain.

Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

If Tyler Booker and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.

Pick Analysis
Pick16 Rnd1 Tyler Booker
In slot 16 they get a plug-and-play piece up front, though the board says they badly overpaid.
Pick39 Rnd2 Tyleik Williams
No edge and no loss on Tyleik Williams in No. 39; it is a wash and a sensible one. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick41 Rnd2 Nick Emmanwori
The board fumbled Nick Emmanwori all the way to the Round 2 slot, and they scooped it up. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick72 Rnd3 Tyler Baron
The board had cheaper options than Tyler Baron at the 72nd overall pick, and it noticed. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick78 Rnd3 Jonah Monheim
Value said wait; Jonah Monheim in pick No. 78 says they were not listening. It fills a real need, too.
Pick149 Rnd5 Brashard Smith
Brashard Smith at Round 5, Pick 10 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick178 Rnd5 JJ Pegues
A straight-up fair deal on JJ Pegues at pick No. 178, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick181 Rnd6 Ricky White III
Ricky White III at Round 6, Pick 3 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick197 Rnd6 Jake Briningstool
Jake Briningstool at the 197th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick242 Rnd7 Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
