TAS1988 DRAFTING FOR THEEagles
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Eagles
Overall
B
ValueB+
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B for the Eagles. You could see the war room lean forward. Cobee Bryant at No. 161 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
The cost of the Mickens reach is exactly the players who went right after him. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick32
Rnd1
Walter Nolen
In the 32nd overall pick they get an anchor for the defensive front at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick64
Rnd2
Harold Fannin Jr.
Harold Fannin Jr. slipping to pick No. 64 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It fills a real need, too.
Pick96
Rnd3
Savion Williams
A tidy little value on Savion Williams in the Round 3 slot, a step better than break-even. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick134
Rnd4
Anthony Belton
Anthony Belton in No. 134 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick161
Rnd5
Cobee Bryant
A cornerback of that caliber at Round 5, Pick 23 is the definition of value, full stop. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick164
Rnd5
Trevor Etienne
You do not let a running back like Trevor Etienne reach the 164th pick and blink. They did not. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick165
Rnd5
Jack Nelson
Jack Nelson in pick No. 165 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick168
Rnd5
R.J. Mickens
They talked themselves into R.J. Mickens at slot 168, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
