Draft Grade — Bills

The Bills got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D-. Nobody else had Drake Nugent anywhere near the Round 5 slot. The Bills did, by 55 spots, and that gap is the whole story. The process wobbled, and the D- is where it lands.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. For all the activity, linebacker went untouched, which is hard to explain. That Wilson pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with offensive lineman chief among the fixes.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and linebacker is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick43
Rnd2
Xavier Legette
Fair-plus on Xavier Legette, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick44
Rnd2
Braden Fiske
A conviction pick on Braden Fiske at the 44th pick that the board grades a round light. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick63
Rnd2
Bralen Trice
A straight-up fair deal on Bralen Trice at the Round 2 slot, value and slot in agreement. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick99
Rnd3
Khyree Jackson
Khyree Jackson in pick No. 99 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick112
Rnd4
Leonard Taylor III
Leonard Taylor III at slot 112 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick142
Rnd5
Johnny Wilson
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Johnny Wilson in the 142nd overall pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick144
Rnd5
Christian Jones
Value with a capital V on Christian Jones in the Round 5 slot, a genuine coup. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick155
Rnd5
Drake Nugent
A wild overpay on Drake Nugent in pick No. 155, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick160
Rnd5
Jacob Cowing
They read the board right and Jacob Cowing was the payoff at pick 160. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick205
Rnd6
Kimani Vidal
Kimani Vidal at Round 6, Pick 30 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
