The Bills lost the trade table, and the D- tells the story. You can hear the double-takes from here. The Bills took Jarrian Jones at the 113th overall pick, roughly 36 spots before his name belonged. The math is unkind, and the D- follows.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
They banked enough surplus on Latu to cover a lot of smaller sins. They went 7 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Laiatu Latu
In the 28th overall pick they get a double-digit-sack hope, and a steal at that.
Pick44
Rnd2
Troy Franklin
Troy Franklin in the 44th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick60
Rnd2
Ruke Orhorhoro
Ruke Orhorhoro at Round 2, Pick 28 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick90
Rnd3
Xavier Legette
Value with a capital V on Xavier Legette in No. 90, a genuine coup. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick99
Rnd3
Leonard Taylor III
A straight-up fair deal on Leonard Taylor III at pick No. 99, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick113
Rnd4
Jarrian Jones
A big swing on Jarrian Jones at the Round 4 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick129
Rnd4
Tykee Smith
Tykee Smith at Round 4, Pick 29 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick137
Rnd5
Christian Jones
Christian Jones in the 137th pick is fair value, right on his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick159
Rnd5
Sione Vaki
Sione Vaki at pick 159 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick162
Rnd5
Marist Liufau
A slide stopped in No. 162, with Marist Liufau worth more than the price. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick198
Rnd6
Justin Rogers
No edge and no loss on Justin Rogers in the Round 6 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick206
Rnd6
Kimani Vidal
Kimani Vidal in slot 206 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It fills a real need, too.
