Draft Grade — Bills

The Bills lost the trade table, and the D- tells the story. There is reaching, and then there is Drake Nugent at slot 155. The Bills jumped the board by 55 and dared it to prove them wrong. Hard to defend, and the D- reflects that.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. Landing Goncalves that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Brian Thomas Jr.
In the 28th pick they get a matchup problem out wide. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick44
Rnd2
Braden Fiske
They paid up for Braden Fiske at slot 44 when waiting would have done the job. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick66
Rnd3
Bralen Trice
Nothing to complain about; Bralen Trice went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick71
Rnd3
Mike Sainristil
By-the-book stuff, Mike Sainristil at pick No. 71 squarely in line with his ranking. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick83
Rnd3
Javon Baker
A reach for Javon Baker in the 83rd overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick99
Rnd3
Leonard Taylor III
They paid a round early for Leonard Taylor III in Round 3, Pick 36, more than the board wanted. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick128
Rnd4
Matt Goncalves
Matt Goncalves slid further than he should have, and pick 128 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick144
Rnd5
Nehemiah Pritchett
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Nehemiah Pritchett. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick154
Rnd5
Jacob Cowing
They did well to land Jacob Cowing in No. 154, just ahead of his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick155
Rnd5
Drake Nugent
A big swing on Drake Nugent at Round 5, Pick 19, well ahead of any board in the building. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick160
Rnd5
Tykee Smith
No edge and no loss on Tykee Smith in the 160th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick189
Rnd6
Curtis Jacobs
Curtis Jacobs at the 189th overall pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick203
Rnd6
Kimani Vidal
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Kimani Vidal. A need, and now a little less of one.
