Draft Grade — Bills
Overall

FutureC
The phones sank the Bills this weekend: D-. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Bills did exactly that with Drake Nugent in pick No. 163. It grades a D-, and the process earned it.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. They punted on linebacker, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
The McCormick steal is the beam this whole class leans on. They left with offensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Adonai Mitchell
A straight-up fair deal on Adonai Mitchell at the Round 1 slot, value and slot in agreement. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick43
Rnd2
Braden Fiske
A reach for Braden Fiske in Round 2, Pick 11; a little patience would have been rewarded. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick60
Rnd2
Bralen Trice
They took Bralen Trice at par in No. 60, which is nothing to complain about. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick83
Rnd3
Mike Sainristil
The board had Mike Sainristil higher than pick No. 83, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick86
Rnd3
Javon Baker
Javon Baker at the 86th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick109
Rnd4
Blake Fisher
They paid up for Blake Fisher at pick 109 when waiting would have done the job. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick144
Rnd5
Jacob Cowing
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jacob Cowing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick154
Rnd5
Tykee Smith
No drama and no debate, Tykee Smith went about where he belonged in the 154th pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick155
Rnd5
Mason McCormick
They let Mason McCormick come to them and pounced at pick No. 155. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick160
Rnd5
Khristian Boyd
This one needs a full-page explanation: Khristian Boyd in Round 5, Pick 24, miles early. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick163
Rnd5
Drake Nugent
Drake Nugent at the Round 5 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
