Draft Grade — Bills

A solid, sensible weekend for the Bills: B-. The Bills clearly saw something nobody else did in Cedric Johnson, taking him 64 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced.
They will regret leaving linebacker for another day if the season turns on it. Hampton falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. Offensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
They bet on numbers rather than a single high pick.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the linebacker spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Brian Thomas Jr.
In slot 28 they get a matchup problem out wide. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick60
Rnd2
Braden Fiske
Good price on Braden Fiske in the 60th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick131
Rnd4
Beau Brade
No edge and no loss on Beau Brade in pick 131; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick134
Rnd4
Javon Foster
Nice patience on Javon Foster, who had no business lasting to No. 134. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick144
Rnd5
Brennan Jackson
Brennan Jackson at pick No. 144 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick160
Rnd5
Mason McCormick
A slide stopped in Round 5, Pick 24, with Mason McCormick worth more than the price. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick163
Rnd5
Cedric Johnson
Cedric Johnson at pick 163 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The roster fit checks out.
Pick196
Rnd6
Gabe Hall
Gabe Hall in slot 196 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick200
Rnd6
Drake Nugent
Drake Nugent at Round 6, Pick 25 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick204
Rnd6
Frank Gore Jr.
They reached a country mile for Frank Gore Jr. at the 204th overall pick, and the board is aghast. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick215
Rnd6
Richard Jibunor
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Richard Jibunor well ahead of where he belonged. Need-wise, a curious use of the pick.
Pick248
Rnd7
Evan Anderson
A wild overpay on Evan Anderson in the 248th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick251
Rnd7
Dominique Hampton
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Dominique Hampton at pick No. 251. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
