FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Bills. The war room fell hard for Teddye Buchanan, and it showed at Round 5, Pick 35: 79 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Grant. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped offensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with linebacker chief among the fixes.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Matthew Golden
Matthew Golden at pick 30 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick56
Rnd2
Kenneth Grant
You do not let an interior defensive lineman like Kenneth Grant reach the 56th overall pick and blink. They did not. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick62
Rnd2
Maxwell Hairston
Maxwell Hairston in pick No. 62 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick109
Rnd4
Joshua Farmer
Joshua Farmer at No. 109 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick132
Rnd4
Trevor Etienne
They paid up for Trevor Etienne at Round 4, Pick 30 when waiting would have done the job. The roster fit checks out.
Pick169
Rnd5
Jaylen Reed
They reached into another round for Jaylen Reed, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick170
Rnd5
Tyler Batty
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Tyler Batty. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick173
Rnd5
Teddye Buchanan
Teddye Buchanan in slot 173 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick177
Rnd6
CJ West
CJ West at the Round 6 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick206
Rnd6
Jay Higgins
Jay Higgins at pick 206 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
