Draft Grade — Bills
Overall B+
ValueB NeedB TradesA+ FutureB-
The Bills won the weekend at the trade table. Grade: B+.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Bills did exactly that with Kitan Crawford in the 206th pick. It does the job without flash, and the B+ reflects it.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Nolen. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend.

If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick Analysis
Pick50 Rnd2 Walter Nolen
A interior defensive lineman of that caliber at slot 50 is the definition of value, full stop. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick52 Rnd2 Jayden Higgins
They took Jayden Higgins at par in the 52nd overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick56 Rnd2 Maxwell Hairston
A conviction pick on Maxwell Hairston at the 56th pick that the board grades a round light. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick62 Rnd2 Xavier Watts
They will replay Xavier Watts at pick 62 for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick71 Rnd3 Demetrius Knight Jr.
A tidy bit of business in Round 3, Pick 7, where Demetrius Knight Jr. graded well above the range. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick72 Rnd3 Quinshon Judkins
Quinshon Judkins in the Round 3 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It fills a real need, too.
Pick132 Rnd4 Hollin Pierce
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Hollin Pierce. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick169 Rnd5 Tommi Hill
Tommi Hill is a better player than pick No. 169 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick170 Rnd5 Vernon Broughton
They paid up for Vernon Broughton at the Round 5 slot when waiting would have done the job. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick173 Rnd5 Clay Webb
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Clay Webb well ahead of where he belonged. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick177 Rnd6 Dont'e Thornton Jr.
They paid sticker price for Dont'e Thornton Jr. in the 177th overall pick, and that is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick179 Rnd6 James Burnip
They read the board right and James Burnip was the payoff at slot 179. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick206 Rnd6 Kitan Crawford
Kitan Crawford at pick 206 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
