Nobody dealt better than the Bills this weekend: B-. Nobody else had Jack Pyburn anywhere near pick 220. The Bills did, by 65 spots, and that gap is the whole story.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. Lane falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick21
Rnd1
Caleb Lomu
In the 21st overall pick they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick26
Rnd1
Denzel Boston
In the Round 1 slot they get a go-to option on the outside. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick91
Rnd3
Connor Lew
Connor Lew slid further than he should have, and slot 91 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick99
Rnd3
Harold Perkins Jr.
Harold Perkins Jr. at pick No. 99 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick121
Rnd4
Nicholas Singleton
They let Nicholas Singleton come to them and pounced at No. 121. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick126
Rnd4
Ja'Kobi Lane
They will replay Ja'Kobi Lane at the 126th pick for years; that is how good the value is. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick165
Rnd5
Domani Jackson
The board had cheaper options than Domani Jackson at the 165th pick, and it noticed. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick168
Rnd5
Kage Casey
Kage Casey at No. 168 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick182
Rnd6
Zane Durant
Nothing to complain about; Zane Durant went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick220
Rnd7
Jack Pyburn
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jack Pyburn this early at pick 220. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick224
Rnd7
Xavier Nwankpa
No drama and no debate, Xavier Nwankpa went about where he belonged in pick No. 224. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
