jordans DRAFTING FOR THECardinals

Draft Grade — Cardinals

FutureB-
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Cardinals and Walker: B-. You could see the war room lean forward. Jalon Walker at pick 47 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Every board in the league had Dotson lower, and that gap is the story.
Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick16
Rnd1
Wyatt Milum
Wyatt Milum at pick No. 16 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick47
Rnd2
Jalon Walker
Jalon Walker at No. 47 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick78
Rnd3
Elic Ayomanor
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Elic Ayomanor in the Round 3 slot. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick115
Rnd4
Mello Dotson
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Mello Dotson well ahead of where he belonged. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick152
Rnd5
James Burnip
James Burnip at the 152nd pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick225
Rnd7
Caleb Ransaw
Taking Caleb Ransaw in the 225th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
