Draft Grade — Bills

The Bills cashed the board's mistake on Smith: D-. Somebody took the Bills to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. It grades a D-, and the process earned it.
That linebacker hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They banked enough surplus on Smith to cover a lot of smaller sins.
They will need Baker to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Brian Thomas Jr.
In the Round 1 slot they get a matchup problem out wide. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick44
Rnd2
Darius Robinson
Nothing to complain about; Darius Robinson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick60
Rnd2
Braden Fiske
Braden Fiske at slot 60 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick83
Rnd3
Javon Baker
They paid a round early for Javon Baker in No. 83, more than the board wanted. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick99
Rnd3
Jaden Hicks
Jaden Hicks is a better player than the 99th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The roster fit checks out.
Pick112
Rnd4
Leonard Taylor III
They took Leonard Taylor III at par in pick 112, which is nothing to complain about. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick128
Rnd4
Blake Fisher
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 128, where Blake Fisher graded well above the range. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick154
Rnd5
Jacob Cowing
Fair-plus on Jacob Cowing, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick155
Rnd5
Nehemiah Pritchett
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Nehemiah Pritchett at the 155th pick is the proof. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick160
Rnd5
Isaiah Davis
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 5 slot with a little surplus value in Isaiah Davis. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick163
Rnd5
Trevor Keegan
They barely believed it either: Trevor Keegan still on the board at Round 5, Pick 27. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick189
Rnd6
Tykee Smith
Steal is underselling it; Tykee Smith at pick 189 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
