Draft Grade — Bills
Overall
D-
ValueB-
NeedB+
TradesF
FutureC+
The Bills got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D-. The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Bills reached some 49 spots for Kimani Vidal, and value like that does not grow back. Hard to defend, and the D- reflects that.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. The McMillan steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Brian Thomas Jr.
In pick 30 they get a No. 1 receiver at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick47
Rnd2
Darius Robinson
Darius Robinson slid further than he should have, and slot 47 is lovely value for the edge rusher. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick61
Rnd2
Kris Jenkins
Kris Jenkins at pick No. 61 is money in the bank, a edge rusher taken below his worth. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick83
Rnd3
Calen Bullock
They took Calen Bullock at par in the Round 3 slot, which is nothing to complain about. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick112
Rnd4
Jalen McMillan
Nice patience on Jalen McMillan, who had no business lasting to No. 112. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick126
Rnd4
James Williams
James Williams at Round 4, Pick 26 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick130
Rnd4
Christian Jones
A straight-up fair deal on Christian Jones at Round 4, Pick 30, value and slot in agreement. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick144
Rnd5
Nehemiah Pritchett
By-the-book stuff, Nehemiah Pritchett at the 144th pick squarely in line with his ranking. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick163
Rnd5
Jordan Jefferson
Jordan Jefferson at pick No. 163 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick200
Rnd6
Drake Nugent
They went early on Drake Nugent in the Round 6 slot, and the value did not follow. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick204
Rnd6
Kimani Vidal
Kimani Vidal in No. 204 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
