Draft Grade — Bills
Overall
D-
ValueC+
NeedB+
TradesF
FutureB-
The Bills bled value on every deal, hence the D-. The trade table was where it all came apart. The Bills shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill.
The Vidal pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. For all the activity, linebacker went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and linebacker is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Brian Thomas Jr.
In pick 28 they get a No. 1 receiver at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick49
Rnd2
Braden Fiske
Braden Fiske at the 49th overall pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick60
Rnd2
Bralen Trice
A straight-up fair deal on Bralen Trice at the Round 2 slot, value and slot in agreement. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick83
Rnd3
Jaden Hicks
Jaden Hicks at Round 3, Pick 19 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick112
Rnd4
Blake Fisher
Blake Fisher in slot 112 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick128
Rnd4
Johnny Wilson
Johnny Wilson at pick No. 128 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick144
Rnd5
Jacob Cowing
They took Jacob Cowing at par in No. 144, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick155
Rnd5
Nehemiah Pritchett
Value with a capital V on Nehemiah Pritchett in the 155th pick, a genuine coup. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick163
Rnd5
Jordan Jefferson
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jordan Jefferson in Round 5, Pick 27, miles early. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick189
Rnd6
Drake Nugent
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Drake Nugent. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick224
Rnd7
Kimani Vidal
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Kimani Vidal well ahead of where he belonged. It fills a real need, too.
Pick236
Rnd7
Sam Hartman
They left a pile of value on the table to take Sam Hartman this early at slot 236. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
