FutureA+
More right than wrong for the Giants, and a B to prove it. The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Giants reached some 63 spots for Ethan Downs, and value like that does not grow back.
The Mickens pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want. The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the running back spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Tyler Warren
In pick 14 they get a matchup weapon at tight end at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick34
Rnd2
Jaxson Dart
A straight-up fair deal on Jaxson Dart at the Round 2 slot, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick50
Rnd2
Aireontae Ersery
A tidy little value on Aireontae Ersery in Round 2, Pick 18, a step better than break-even. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick65
Rnd3
Alfred Collins
Alfred Collins at the 65th overall pick is money in the bank, a interior defensive lineman taken below his worth. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick80
Rnd3
Jayden Higgins
A slide stopped in pick No. 80, with Jayden Higgins worth more than the price. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick92
Rnd3
Barrett Carter
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Barrett Carter in the 92nd pick. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick99
Rnd3
Zy Alexander
No edge and no loss on Zy Alexander in pick No. 99; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick105
Rnd4
Jared Wilson
They paid sticker price for Jared Wilson in the 105th overall pick, and that is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick154
Rnd5
Connor Colby
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Connor Colby. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick219
Rnd7
Ethan Downs
A wild overpay on Ethan Downs in the 219th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick234
Rnd7
R.J. Mickens
Circle this one: R.J. Mickens at slot 234 is a fall that decides a draft. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick246
Rnd7
Teddye Buchanan
Teddye Buchanan at pick 246 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
