Larceny in slot 203 lands the Bears a B-, Bassa and all. Somebody in the 203rd overall pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Bears sat still while Jeffrey Bassa, the No. 128 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
They will need Nelson to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The cornerback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.
Pick Analysis
Pick9
Rnd1
Mason Graham
In pick No. 9 they get a wrecking ball inside. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick35
Rnd2
Jack Sawyer
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jack Sawyer at the 35th pick is the proof. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick41
Rnd2
Donovan Jackson
Donovan Jackson at No. 41 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick73
Rnd3
Jack Nelson
A real head-scratcher, Jack Nelson in pick 73 is miles ahead of his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick146
Rnd5
Quinshon Judkins
Quinshon Judkins in the 146th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick203
Rnd6
Jeffrey Bassa
Taking Jeffrey Bassa in slot 203 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick227
Rnd7
Hunter Wohler
Fair-plus on Hunter Wohler, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick244
Rnd7
Seth McLaughlin
Steal is underselling it; Seth McLaughlin at Round 7, Pick 30 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
