FutureB-
Larceny in the 56th overall pick lands the Texans a B+, Echoles and all. You could see the war room lean forward. Will Echoles at slot 56 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B+.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. For all the activity, running back went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Duce Robinson
In pick No. 28 they get a weapon on the perimeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick56
Rnd2
Will Echoles
Will Echoles at slot 56 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick60
Rnd2
Lance Heard
Lance Heard in the Round 2 slot is fair value, right on his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick69
Rnd3
Samson Okunlola
A clean, defensible pick in the 69th pick with a little surplus value in Samson Okunlola. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick106
Rnd4
Earl Little Jr.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Earl Little Jr. in Round 4, Pick 6. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick126
Rnd4
Jayce Brown
A conviction pick on Jayce Brown at No. 126 that the board grades a round light. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick128
Rnd4
Eli Bowen
No edge and no loss on Eli Bowen in pick 128; it is a wash and a sensible one. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick165
Rnd5
Eugene Wilson III
They jumped the gun on Eugene Wilson III, taking him earlier than his grade liked. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick220
Rnd7
Landen Hatchett
A straight-up fair deal on Landen Hatchett at No. 220, value and slot in agreement. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick228
Rnd7
TJ Metcalf
Somehow TJ Metcalf was still sitting there in slot 228, and they pounced on premier safety value. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick243
Rnd7
Austin Romaine
Austin Romaine slipping to the 243rd pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick244
Rnd7
Anthony Evans III
No drama and no debate, Anthony Evans III went about where he belonged in the 244th overall pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
