Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall D-
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureB-
The phones sank the 49ers this weekend: D-.

The trade table was where it all came apart. The 49ers shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D- is the result.

If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back. The Phillips pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with running back, quarterback and other spots still on the board. If Sweat pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.

However the rest shakes out, Jacobs at that price is a win they earned.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Tyler Guyton
In the Round 1 slot they get protection for the quarterback. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick34 Rnd2 T'Vondre Sweat
They paid up for T'Vondre Sweat at Round 2, Pick 2 when waiting would have done the job. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick63 Rnd2 Braden Fiske
Braden Fiske slipping to the 63rd overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick68 Rnd3 Xavier Worthy
Nice patience on Xavier Worthy, who had no business lasting to No. 68. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick82 Rnd3 Khyree Jackson
They took Khyree Jackson at par in pick 82, which is nothing to complain about. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick94 Rnd3 Christian Mahogany
Christian Mahogany at slot 94 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick98 Rnd3 Cole Bishop
They paid a round early for Cole Bishop in the 98th pick, more than the board wanted. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick104 Rnd4 Andru Phillips
A curious use of pick No. 104. Running back, quarterback and other spots needed the pick; a cornerback in Andru Phillips did not.
Pick118 Rnd4 Beaux Limmer
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Beaux Limmer. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick125 Rnd4 Johnny Wilson
By-the-book stuff, Johnny Wilson at slot 125 squarely in line with his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick132 Rnd4 Ben Sinnott
No edge and no loss on Ben Sinnott in pick No. 132; it is a wash and a sensible one. The roster fit checks out.
Pick136 Rnd4 Jarrian Jones
They bypassed pressing needs at running back, quarterback and other spots to take Jarrian Jones, a cornerback that was not the priority.
Pick176 Rnd6 Luke McCaffrey
A quiet steal in the Round 6 slot: Luke McCaffrey for less than the market said. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick209 Rnd6 Elijah Jones
They let Elijah Jones come to them and pounced at the 209th overall pick. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick214 Rnd6 Curtis Jacobs
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Curtis Jacobs in No. 214. A need, and now a little less of one.
