Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesB FutureB-
The Texans kept it disciplined and banked a B.

The Texans clearly saw something nobody else did in McKinnley Jackson, taking him 37 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.

They banked enough surplus on Arnold to cover a lot of smaller sins. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped offensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the offensive lineman spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Dallas Turner
In pick 23 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick44 Rnd2 Terrion Arnold
Circle this one: Terrion Arnold at Round 2, Pick 12 is a fall that decides a draft. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick86 Rnd3 McKinnley Jackson
They reached into another round for McKinnley Jackson, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick124 Rnd4 Ben Sinnott
Ben Sinnott at the 124th pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. It fills a real need, too.
Pick128 Rnd4 Ainias Smith
They took Ainias Smith at par in pick No. 128, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick236 Rnd7 Frank Gore Jr.
Nice patience on Frank Gore Jr., who had no business lasting to the Round 7 slot. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick245 Rnd7 Tyler Owens
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Tyler Owens at Round 7, Pick 25. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick250 Rnd7 Ryan Watts
Ryan Watts at No. 250 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
