Draft Grade — Vikings
Overall D
ValueB- NeedB- TradesF FutureA
The Vikings got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D.

Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Vikings spent pick No. 166 on Joe Milton III, a name the board had a full 33 spots lower. The process wobbled, and the D is where it lands.

The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

The Vaki value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.

Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 Quinyon Mitchell
In Round 1, Pick 11 they get a press-man option on the boundary, though they paid up to get him. Need was not the driver here.
Pick23 Rnd1 Brian Thomas Jr.
In the 23rd pick they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value.
Pick42 Rnd2 Payton Wilson
By-the-book stuff, Payton Wilson at pick No. 42 squarely in line with his ranking. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick59 Rnd2 Xavier Worthy
A tidy little value on Xavier Worthy in slot 59, a step better than break-even. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick86 Rnd3 Trey Benson
Trey Benson in the Round 3 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick109 Rnd4 Christian Mahogany
Nice patience on Christian Mahogany, who had no business lasting to No. 109. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick130 Rnd4 McKinnley Jackson
Good price on McKinnley Jackson in the 130th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick156 Rnd5 Xavier Thomas
Xavier Thomas at pick 156 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick166 Rnd5 Joe Milton III
A wild overpay on Joe Milton III in the Round 5 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick179 Rnd6 Kamal Hadden
A slide stopped in No. 179, with Kamal Hadden worth more than the price. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick190 Rnd6 Sione Vaki
Sione Vaki at slot 190 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
