Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesB FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Steelers: B-.

If confidence were a draft strategy, the Steelers would have aced it. Cedric Gray at the 84th pick is 29 spots clear of where he belonged.

It is not that Fisher is a bad player; it is that the Steelers had louder needs to answer first. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. However the rest shakes out, Johnson at that price is a win they earned.

Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick33 Rnd2 Adonai Mitchell
Adonai Mitchell in the Round 2 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick45 Rnd2 Zach Frazier
They jumped the gun on Zach Frazier, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick66 Rnd3 Max Melton
They went early on Max Melton in the 66th pick, and the value did not follow. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick84 Rnd3 Cedric Gray
Cedric Gray at pick No. 84 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick98 Rnd3 Blake Fisher
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending slot 98 on Blake Fisher with quarterback, running back and other spots unsolved.
Pick119 Rnd4 Elijah Jones
Fair-plus on Elijah Jones, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick150 Rnd5 Tykee Smith
Tykee Smith in the 150th overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick168 Rnd5 Nelson Ceaser
Nelson Ceaser in pick No. 168 is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick178 Rnd6 M.J. Devonshire
M.J. Devonshire at the 178th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick195 Rnd6 Cornelius Johnson
A slide stopped in Round 6, Pick 20, with Cornelius Johnson worth more than the price. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick226 Rnd7 Myles Murphy
By-the-book stuff, Myles Murphy at No. 226 squarely in line with his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
