51 DRAFTING FOR THEBuccaneers

FutureB-
Flashes of a plan, unevenly executed. Buccaneers: C+. It is the swing that defines the weekend: Jayson Jones in the 244th pick, a good 76 spots before the room expected him.
It is not that Hunt is a bad player; it is that the Buccaneers had louder needs to answer first. Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Job largely done: interior defensive lineman settled and 3 of 8 of the wish list covered. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Hit on Jackson Powers-Johnson and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick Analysis
Pick26
Rnd1
Jackson Powers-Johnson
In slot 26 they get a blindside protector, a steep price for the projection. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick58
Rnd2
Cooper Beebe
They paid a round early for Cooper Beebe in Round 2, Pick 26, more than the board wanted. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick89
Rnd3
Jalyx Hunt
A curious use of No. 89. Tight end, cornerback and other spots needed the pick; a S-EDGE in Jalyx Hunt did not.
Pick127
Rnd4
James Williams
A reach on James Williams in the Round 4 slot; the board had better options right there. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick204
Rnd6
Steele Chambers
Value said wait; Steele Chambers in pick 204 says they were not listening. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick244
Rnd7
Jayson Jones
Jayson Jones at pick No. 244 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick255
Rnd7
Isaac Guerendo
They talked themselves into Isaac Guerendo at slot 255, and the board did not agree. It fills a real need, too.
